Felony DUI cases may be investigated by more than one specialized law enforcement team. While each large law enforcement agency within the State has it’s own accident reconstruction and investigative team to handle the more serious accidents and felony DUI’s, the primary investigative team is the SC Highway Patrol’s MAIT team. MAIT is the Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team that assists law enforcement agencies, and they normally provide in-depth investigations and/or reconstructions to determine the exact sequence of events that occurred before, during and after each collision. Their ultimate objective is to be the fact finders so that the proper decisions can be made as to the causes of an accident and the charges that are brought against a driver.
Often times MAIT will:
- Reconstruct vehicle collisions;
- Document the accident scene;
- Photograph, video record accident scene;
- Perform forensic laser mapping of the accident site;
- Perform mechanic examinations;
- Data retrieval from vehicle’s black box.
During the past thirty (30) years, Peter Brown has challenged many of the most experienced accident reconstructionists in the tri-county area. Through the passage of time, many of these experts have retired and now working independently as experts. Our law firm often employs these very same veteran reconstructionists on a case-by-case basis to assist us in defending our clients.
In the past we have employed accident reconstructionists who have supervised the MAIT teams (or their equivalent) from Charleston County Sheriff’s Department, the City of Charleston Police Department and the North Charleston Police Department on behalf of our clients. This has proven to be an invaluable aid when investigating these most serious collisions in these jurisdictions.
These veteran reconstructionists are available to travel with us throughout the State in order to challenge the charges brought against our clients.
If you have a serious driving situation, do not hesitate to contact our office to help you. We can quickly deploy a veteran investigator to document and gather favorable evidence surrounding your incident. Accident scenes are cleaned up, vehicles removed and destroyed and important witnesses disappear or forget the valuable facts that might help a case.
Don’t you think that your freedom is worth hiring this Defense Team? Even if you don’t ultimately take such a matter all the way to trial, it is important to preserve all the evidence so that it can be reviewed by someone who is fighting for you and has your best interest in mind?
