DUI Lawyers | How to Avoid a DUI
DUI Lawyers | The best way to avoid a DUI is never to drink and drive. Even if you are not at the legal limit, it is always better to have someone else drive you or call a cab or ride share app to get home rather than get behind the wheel yourself. DUI fines and penalties are steep, and a DUI lawyer can’t always get you out of everything, however. If you have had a few drinks and do get behind the wheel, there are a few things you can do to avoid a DUI as well as avoid hurting yourself or someone else.
1. Always Use Your Signals- Do not get pulled over for something silly like not using your turn signal. Even if you aren’t drunk, if you get pulled over and the officer smells beer on your breath, they can ask you to take a field sobriety or breathalyzer test. Your turn signals are also for the safety of the people around you, so pay attention and follow the rules of the road.
2. Come to Complete Stops- When you reach a stoplight or stop sign, you must come to a complete stop. Rolling a stop sign is another silly reason to get pulled over and end up with a DUI but is one of the most common reasons why DUI lawyers see their clients getting stopped by the police.
3. Lights On- Make sure that your brake lights work, your headlights are both working, your license plate light is on, and you use your lights when it’s dark. DUI lawyers see people being pulled over for taillight troubles and ending up with DUIs even though they were driving just fine.
4. Follow the Speed Limit- Do not speed, but also, do not drive under the speed limit. Stay at or within three miles of the posted speed limit to avoid getting pulled over. Sometimes if you are overly cautious you might be tempted to drive slowly, but you will get pulled over for suspicious driving for doing something like that.
